Ever since I found out we got into Made in Maui, it’s been a whirlwind. I had that first moment of, “We got in!” and then I looked at everything we had to do before opening day. There were pieces to cut and sew, buttons to finish, tags and signs to get ready, and a booth and fashion show to plan. It’s been a lot, and I’ve been looking forward to seeing it all come together.
I’ve been working with locally sourced fabrics to make some pieces especially for this weekend. This first MADE collection has a little of the Hawaiʻi I grew up with in it. I wanted to bring that feeling into clothes you can really live in, from the La Pule shirt to our everyday and keiki shorts. One of my favorite parts is seeing how the same cut can feel completely different in a new fabric or color.
This is our first official launch as Nā Lima Collective, and it feels like a big step for us. There’s a lot of work behind what will hang on those racks, from getting the fit right to figuring out how we want the booth to feel when you walk in. I’m excited to finally see people try the pieces on and find the ones that feel like them.
If you’re coming to the Made in Maui County Festival, come say hi and see what we’ve been working on. We’ll be at Booth 214 on the Great Central Lawn at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.
Friday, November 6 · 1:30–6 p.m.
Saturday, November 7 · 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
See you there,
Kehau
